Egyptian Museum, Saqqara, Pyramids
After breakfast, a full day of touring is planned for today, visiting the Great Pyramids of Giza and lion-headed Sphinx. Almost 2.5 million limestone blocks, quarried locally and weighing in excess of 6 million tonnes, were used in the construction of Cheops, the oldest and largest of the three Pyramids of Giza. Leaving Giza we drive to ancient Saqqara which served as the necropolis for the Ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Returning to Cairo we visit the world-famous Egyptian Museum where around 100,000 relics and antiquities from almost every period of ancient Egyptian history may be found. The most famous exhibit being the solid gold funerary mask of King Tutankhamen, made of solid gold and weighing 11kg. For an extra fee you may also visit Royal Mummy Room which houses the mummified bodies of some of Egypt’s most illustrious kings and queens.

Today you are free to explore Cairo by yourself. We offer you optional tours to Coptic & Islamic Cairo and Khan el Khalili, or maybe do an optional day trip to Alexandria. You can have a wonderful day visiting the Mediterranean Jewel of Alexandria, located 270 kilometres to the North of Cairo, visiting the army fortress of Qaitbey, the library of Alexandria, and have a taste of the Greco Roman civilization in Egypt. Entrance fees and lunch are included.
